What Happens On An Industrial Photoshoot?

A behind-the-scenes Guide for Manufacturers and Engineers

If you're in Manufacturing, Engineering or Construction and thinking about hiring a photographer, you probably have a few questions...

What actually happens on the day?

Will it disrupt production?

How do we prepare?

And how do we make sure the images are useful?

We get asked these things all the time - and rightly so. Industrial environments are busy, safety-critical and time sensitive. A photoshoot can feel like just another complication.

But with the right planning and the right team, it doesn't have to be.

Here's a step-by-step look at what really happens before, during and after an industrial photography session ... and how to make sure you get the most from it.

1. Pre-Shoot Planning

This is where the value really starts.

Before we even step on-site, we'll work with you to:

Understand your goals - recruitment, website content, case studies etc

Identify the people, processes or equipment that need to be captured

Plan around your schedule to minimise disruption

Discuss health and safety requirements and site-specific protocols

We'll also advise on what makes for good visual story-telling, variety, human interaction, movement and a sense of your working environment.

2. Arriving On-Site

With the above in place, on the day we then arrive fully briefed and PPE-ready.

We check in with the site contact, review any last minute updates and make sure we're working within your safety protocols. We work efficiently and respectfully , so your team can stay focused.

Our goal is to deliver a well organised shoot that fits around your operations.

3. Capturing The Shots

Once we're set up, we can start capturing a mix of...

People at work (with proper PPE and permissions)

Machinery or processes in action

Detail shots of tools, hands, components, products

Wide shots showing scale, layout and environment

We may give light direction. Authenticity is key. and, if you need photography and video we can coordinate both from the same session, to save time and cost.

4. Keeping Disruption Low

A good industrial shoot should feel like we're almost not there.

We work around your shift patterns, production flow and H&S zones to make sure we get in the way as little as possible. We also liaise with supervisors to ensure team members know what to expect.

The aim is simple - get great content while letting your business carry on as normal.

5. After The Shoot

Once the shoot is complete, we handle all post-production ...

Editing and colour correction

Consistent file naming and formatting for web, social and print

Delivery of your image library with clear usage rights

We also help advise how best to use the content - from hero images on your website to recruitment campaigns, case studies and internal materials.

Bonus Tip: Involve Your Team Early

One of the best ways to make a shoot go smoothly is to let your team know well in advance.

Reassure them it's not about staged headshots or being put on the spot.

We're there to show what they do best - in the most natural and respectful way possible.

And here's something worth sharing with your team - great photography helps the business grow - which helps everyone.

It supports sales, recruitment, reputation and even internal pride.

The more your company can show what it does well, the more opportunities come in.
